Why is this related to the elections? Rights of people with disabilities, animal welfare, and school bullying
The Civil Compass association deals with direct democracy and governmental transparency. We forward questions from Israeli citizens with the right to vote to politicians and publish their answers, so that everyone can see who is really working and who is silent. We simply pass them on, without commentary.
We have already forwarded to the party headquarters inquiries from citizens with disabilities, new immigrants, psychologists who cannot obtain a work license in Israel, as well as questions on the topics of phone scams targeting the elderly and animal welfare.
Speaking of animals, in Netanya I see with my own eyes how this is "handled," based on volunteer inquiries and the mayor's responses. Budget cuts and responses along the lines of "pay your municipal property tax and let the municipality work." On the topic of scams, someone is presumably doing something. But searching for that in the newspapers is not my job. I am an ordinary citizen. I have to work, pay municipal property tax, pay taxes, and hope there won't be a minus in the bank at the end of the month. Figuring out who is doing what is the job of those we elected. If they are doing things, good for them, so state it clearly and don't leave us to guess.
This coming Thursday we are meeting with Yair Golan, of The Democrats party. Because of the holidays we didn't manage to collect all the questions, but that's precisely the point: the party will answer when it has time, especially since the elections are already near.
I personally continue to deal with the issue of school bullying, because I understand it well and believe I know how it can be reduced.
If animal welfare, the fight against phone scams targeting the elderly, or school bullying are close to your heart, support these inquiries. Or add whatever is bothering you. Politicians need to understand: if they don't answer citizens, they won't be voted for. Animals won't defend themselves, bullying won't stop on its own, and grandmothers won't protect themselves from fraudsters.
And good news: The Yashar party (headed by Eisenkot) has already sent a written response to our questions. Everyone can read it on our website.
