For Holocaust survivors
Today we met with the leadership of the "Kavod Front" movement, together with former Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition, MK Yair Lapid, and Yesh Atid members of Knesset.
The struggle for Holocaust survivors from the former Soviet Union did not begin today. A significant first step was already taken in 2014, when Yair Lapid served as Minister of Finance and led a national plan to improve the living conditions of Holocaust survivors. As part of this move, tens of thousands of Holocaust survivors from the former Soviet Union gained recognition and rights they did not have previously.
But the work is not yet complete.
Now is the time to take the next step and correct the historical distortion: to equalize the rights of Holocaust survivors who immigrated to Israel after October 1, 1953, with the rights of those who immigrated before that date.
In the 25th Knesset, I submitted bills designed to correct this injustice and bring about equality in rights.
At the same time, together with MK Vladimir Beliak, we led a stubborn struggle against the exploitation of the elderly—especially Russian-speaking seniors—who repeatedly became an easy target for scammers and companies that take advantage of their age, language barriers, and unfamiliarity with the system. We worked to protect them, strengthen enforcement, and put this phenomenon on the public and parliamentary agenda.
We have no time to waste. In the past six months alone, 13 people from the group awaiting the correction of their rights have passed away. Behind every number is a person who waited for justice and recognition.
In the previous Knesset, the Special Committee for the Treatment of Holocaust Survivors was established, led by former Minister for Social Equality, MK Meirav Cohen, and subsequently MK Yasmine Fridman continued this important work. Yesh Atid has a structured plan to improve the quality of life and welfare of senior citizens and is committed to continuing to act on their behalf.
I am concluding my role as a member of Knesset, but not my mission. I will continue to accompany the "Kavod Front" and work for Holocaust survivors and senior citizens in my future roles outside the Knesset as well.
Those who survived the Holocaust should not have to keep waiting for justice.
The time has come to correct the historical injustice and allow them to live out their years with dignity and security.
