Amendment to the Citizenship Law, 5712-1952
Amendment to the Citizenship Law, 5712-1952, which determines the conditions for obtaining citizenship status in the State of Israel
✍️ Submitted by: ד”ר גוטניק, פסיכיאטר ילדים מומחה.
📖 Background
Current law definition: In Israel, citizenship is inherited from parents to their children, regardless of the place of birth. A few specific grounds allow for the revocation of citizenship. Why change: It allows opponents of the existence of the State of Israel to run for the Knesset.
📝 Proposal text
Full citizenship (all rights including the right to vote) only for anyone who commits and swears allegiance to the State of Israel and performs national service. Partial citizenship (partial citizenship with all rights except the right to vote) for anyone who refuses to obey the national service law by choice and not due to a physical/mental condition that does not allow for performing national service.
Goal of the change: To unite the people of Israel through equality in the burden, and to connect different sectors.
✅ For (1)
- + Today, even those who oppose the principles of the existence of the State of Israel and oppose the equal sharing of the burden receive the rights to vote and to be elected to the Knesset.
⚠️ Against (1)
- − All Israeli residents from all sectors must be granted equal political rights.
